Those tunnels don’t clean themselves! If you enjoy graffiti-free tunnels, trash-free streets and attractive and welcoming touches throughout the neighborhood, this is the committee for you! The Beautification Committee works to improve quality of life by spreading loveliness around the neighborhood.
Building & Development Committee
Building & Development will compose a review process and provide oversight for development throughout the Hollywood Dell. The committee will act as a liaison with the City of Los Angeles Building & Safety Dept., research and advise regarding permits, ordinances, zoning restrictions, overlays and building practices that will affect the quality and character of the Hollywood Dell.
Crime Prevention & Neighborhood Safety Committee
The Crime Prevention & Neighborhood Safety Committee is focused on keeping the Hollywood Dell safe, through organized communication, crime prevention strategies, and emergency preparedness plans to assist neighbors in response to a natural disaster or civil unrest.
Dell Events Committee
The Dell Events Committee is an umbrella over a group of sub-committees that are organized to support specific events. Volunteers are needed for planning, promoting, set-up and break down.
Meet & Greets: A few times a year the HDCA organizes casual gatherings at local venues, often in lieu of a monthly membership meeting. These are festive and relaxed opportunities to meet neighbors, find out what’s going on in the Dell, and discover new local hot spots.
Summer BBQ & Pet Parade: This old-fashioned block party stretches along Ivarene from Vine to Willetta. Featuring a live pick-up band comprised of Dell residents, an extensive spread of classic grub, a parade of pets and activities for kids, this annual gathering is a family and four-legged favorite.
Holly-ween: A safe and sweet celebration! The littlest residents of the Dell gather in costume for a party of crafts and games, then parade along a pre-arranged route to trick-or-treat as a group. It is a great chance for families with young kids to meet and mingle.
HDCA Gala: Every now and then we like to throw a swanky, adults-only bash and raise money for a good cause! The HDCA Gala typically features complimentary wine, a buffet supper with live music, silent and live auction items and a breathtaking view of Los Angeles from our own “Tara” on top of the hill in the heart of the Dell.
501c3 Feasibility Committee
Initiated at the year-end membership meeting (October 2010), the 501c3 Feasibility Committee will research and evaluate the pros and cons of turning the HDCA into a registered non-profit (501c3) entity. Volunteers who have experience with setting up a non-profit are encouraged to join.
Franklin/Ivar Park Committee
The vacant lot located adjacent to the 101 freeway, at the NE corner of Franklin Boulevard and Ivar Avenue, was purchased by HDCA and CFRI-NCA and subsequently donated to the Mountain Recreation & Conservation Authority. The Franklin/Ivar Park Committee was formed to secure funding, develop a design plan and execute the creation of a vibrant and verdant community park. Volunteers are needed to assist with grant writing and solicitations of major foundations.
Friends of La Rocha Trail Committee
The Friends of La Rocha Trail Committee is working to preserve a precious stretch of green space right in the heart of the Hollywood Dell. The primary objective of the FOLRT is to raise the necessary funds to purchase the 10 lots that line the trail and donate them to the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority to be preserved as a natural green space forever. Volunteers are needed to assist with fundraising.
The Green Team is focused on keeping the Hollywood Dell green, promoting sustainability and environmental awareness. Recently the Green Team has sponsored a neighborhood fruit exchange and a tour of a residential solar panel installation.
HDCA Membership Meeting Hosts
The HDCA has regular meetings open to the general membership, the public and any interested persons the second Wednesday of the month. HDCA Membership Meetings are hosted in the homes of Dell residents. Meeting hosts should have the capacity to accommodate a group of between 25 and 30 persons, and typically provide light refreshments. Meetings are traditionally held in the evening, and usually last about 1 – 1 ½ hours.
The “Spotlight” is the HDCA Newsletter. Published four times a year, the “Spotlight” is hand delivered by volunteers to 1100 residences in the Hollywood Dell. In addition to our “Delivery Angels,” volunteers are needed to write articles, research topics, and collect advertising fees.
HDCA Reps attend meetings on behalf of the Hollywood Dell residents. They act as liaisons between the Dell and other neighborhood associations and entities. Their primary role is to keep Dell residents informed on issues and actions that will affect our neighoborhood.
HDCA Website (www.hollywooddell.com)
The HDCA Website is a critical communication tool for Hollywood Dell residents. It is used to post valuable resource information, a community calendar, newsletter archives and much more. The HDCA Website is used for registering as a member (through PayPal) and signing up for email alerts. Volunteers are needed to update the website on a weekly basis, and keep the content current and relevant.
Neighborhood Outreach Committee
The Neighborhood Outreach Committee works towards increasing awareness of the Hollywood Dell Civic Association and boosting the annual HDCA membership participation. They are responsible for welcoming new residents to the Hollywood Dell, getting neighbors to sign up for the HDCA email communications, and the annual membership drive. Volunteers are needed to prepare welcome baskets, to send Dell-wide email communications, and collect membership dues.
Traffic, Roads & Parking Committee
Traffic, Roads & Parking will develop strategies for managing traffic, improving/maintaining neighborhood roads and protecting residential parking from infiltration from adjacent commercial activities (restaurants, clubs, entertainment venues). Volunteers are needed to identify priorities for road improvements, work with city officials and represent the Dell at community meetings and forums.
